Javicia Leslie is set to become the first Black woman to play the role of Batwoman.
She will play a new character in the second season of the CW superhero series. The show will see her portray Ryan Wilder, a "highly skilled and wildly undisciplined" character.
Speaking about the news, Leslie said she is proud and honoured.
"I am extremely proud to be the first Black actress to play the iconic role of Batwoman on television, and as a bisexual woman, I am honoured to join this groundbreaking show which has been such a trailblazer for the LGBTQ+ community," Leslie said.
Ruby Rose played the role of Kate Kane for the first series of the show but her Batwoman persona wasn't warmly received by fans.
Taking to Instagram, she congratulated her successor.
"OMG!! This is amazing!! I am so glad Batwoman will be played by an amazing Black woman."
