Munroe Bergdorf announces debut book
The model and trans activist landed a six-figure deal
Model and trans activist Munroe Bergdorf has announced her debut book.
The 32-year-old has revealed that she is set to release 'Transitional', with Bloomsbury Publishing following a bidding war between 11 publishers.
'Transitional' is a manifesto for how Munroe sees society changing for the better of transgender people.
The book will explore different facets of the human experience such as adolescence, sexuality, gender, relationships, identity and race.
Drawing on her own experience growing up in England in a mixed-race family, going to an all-boys school and the beginning of her transition at age 24.
"So excited to finally be able to tell you that my debut book ‘Transitional’ has been acquired by Bloomsbury Publishing," she said on Instagram.
"This is a book about all of us, for all of us."
"None of us are done growing, none of us are done learning. We have everything to gain from embracing and understanding each others differences. In one way or another, we ALL transition," she said.
"You’ll see a different side to me in this book, maybe you’ll see a different side to yourself too."
It comes after Munroe was recently fired, and re-hired by L'Oreal Paris.
In 2017, the brand dropped her from a make-up campaign after she spoke out against white supremacy and racism.
Following the Black Lives Matter Movement, the brand posted an image to their social media reading: "Speaking out is worth it," their post read, in reference to their marketing slogan "You're worth it."
After Munroe called the brand out on Instagram for firing her after speaking out, she was re-hired as part of the brand's UK Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Board.
