RTÉ announce air date for adaptation of Sally Rooney's Normal People

The 12-part programme is based on the writer's New York Times bestseller

RTÉ has announced the air date for the upcoming TV adaptation of Sally Rooney's best selling novel, Normal People.


Labelled a "literary phenomenon" following its release in 2018, the book became a top-five New York Times bestseller and a beloved work of fiction to fans from around the world.

The new series by BBC Three and Hulu in association with Screen Ireland will air on RTÉ from Tuesday, April 28th as a 12-part programme.


Starring Kildare actor Paul Mescal as Connell and Daisy Edgar Jones in the role of Marianne, Sarah Greene and Aislín McGuckin will also feature.


The highly anticipated show follows the pair, and their complicated relationship from their school days in Sligo to their college years at Trinity College Dublin.


Sally Rooney adapted the coming of age novel along with Alice Birch and Irish playwright Mark O’Rowe. 

Directed by Oscar-nominated film-maker Lenny Abrahamson, the series was filmed in Dublin, Sligo, Sweden and Italy.
