The 16 track album, Folklore, will be available from midnight.
Taylor Swift has announced that her eight studio album, Folklore will be released tonight.
Taking to Instagram, the singer delighted fans by revealing that the surprise 16 track album will be available from midnight.
The 30-year-old revealed that prior to the COVID-19 pandemic she did not plan on surprising fans with new music, however during isolation she ended up writing and recording a whole album.
"Most of the things I had planned this summer didn’t end up happening, but there is something I hadn’t planned on that DID happen," she began.
"And that thing is my 8th studio album, Folklore. Surprise!"
Taylor said she has s poured all of her "whims, dreams, fears, and musings" into the LP.
"I wrote and recorded this music in isolation but got to collaborate with some musical heroes of mine," she said, crediting Bon Iver, Jack Antonoff, William Bowery, and Anthony Dresser for co-writing, producing and even performing on some of the album's tracks.
"Before this year I probably would’ve overthought when to release this music at the ‘perfect’ time, but the times we’re living in keep reminding me that nothing is guaranteed," she went on to explain.
"My gut is telling me that if you make something you love, you should just put it out into the world."
"That’s the side of uncertainty I can get on board with," she said, signing off the post telling fans: "Love you guys so much."
The video for the second song on the album, Cardigan, will be released at midnight also.
Written and directed by Swift herself, the video was filmed during the current COVID-19 crisis, however Taylor promised fans that the shoot was overseen by a medical inspector.
"Everyone wore masks, stayed away from each other, and I even did my own hair, makeup, and styling," she said.
The release of Folklore, comes less than a year following the release of her 2019 album, Lover.
